Congressman Celso L. Lobregat of the City’s 1st District pushes for the implementation of school building projects in Zamboanga City.

In a meeting with House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Isidro Ungab, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, and DepEd Asec. Tonisito Umali, Lobregat sought the assistance of DepEd on the implementation of the school building projects in the 1st District of Zamboanga City included in the CY 2014 Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF) Batch 3.

DepEd considered Lobregat’s proposal for the school building projects which include Ayala Central School , Sinunuc Elementary School , Luyahan Elementary School and Sta. Maria Central School .

DepEd also included in the said list Sta. Barbara Central School , a school affected by the Zamboanga siege. The allocation for Sta. Barbara Central School would help them in their much needed reconstruction.

A total amount of PhP104.42 million has been allocated for the 1st District of Zamboanga City under the CY 2014 BEFF Batch 3. The list of schools under the CY 2014 BEFF Batch 3 and the corresponding fund allocation and scope of work include a 3-storey- 15 classroom building at the Ayala Central School worth P22.47M; 2-storey 6 classroom building at the Sinunuc Elementary School worth P8.22M; 3-storey 15 classroom building at the Sta. Maria Central School worth P22.47 million; 2 units of 3 storey 15 classroom buildings at the Sta. Barbara Central School worth P44.95 million and 2-storey 4 classroom building at the Luyahan Elementary School worth P6.29 million for a total of P104.42 million.

To harmonize with the existing school buildings in the different schools, instructions were made by DepEd Secretary Luistro that the architectural design of the school buildings to be constructed should follow the design of the school buildings constructed by the City Government of Zamboanga.

Lobregat also sent communication to Zamboanga City School Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad regarding the schools included in the CY 2014 BEFF Batch 3.

Lobregat will coordinate with DepEd on the implementation of the school building projects. — Jubels Santos
