Despite the inclement weather, hordes of job seekers trooped to the Plaza del Pilar yesterday morning and take part in the job fair conducted by the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) also in line with the 2011 Summer Festival.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said the job fair is another initiative of the city government to help provide employment to fresh graduates and the unemployed sector. He said 15 local companies and 10 international recruiting agencies participated in the job fair.

Mayor Lobregat urged people to avail of such opportunities being offered by the local government and other agencies. “This could be your chance to be employed”.

The mayor together with Councilors Lilia Nuno, Rudy Lim, Eddie Saavedra and Percival Ramos, City Social Welfare and development Officer Francisco Barredo and representatives of the organizing agencies spearheaded in the ribbon-cutting ceremony that preceded the opening program.

The activity was a joint effort with the Department of Labor and Employment regional office, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), ABS-CBN TV Patrol Chavacano and Jenerick International.

Job descriptions that were offered for hiring yesterday included those engaged in accounting, sales personnel, engineering, carpentry, construction workers, janitorial, security agents, instructors, librarians, collectors, computer technicians, hospital cleaners, service crews, waiters and waitresses, nurses, receptionists, household helpers and many more.

Francisco, who is the PESO manager said the city government has succeeded in helping thousands of residents to be employed through job fairs.

“Since its creation, the PESO has been able to facilitate a number of job fairs and has helped ensure a greener pasture for thousands of our constituents”, Barredo stressed. — Sheila Covarrubias
