Mayor Celso Lobregat the other day said he is an advocate of responsible parenthood where people especially parents should be given all information and education on the different ways of managing the population.

After all, he said, it is the parents who will decide for themselves. “Therefore they should be given the right information on the choices like right spacing and natural means of family planning and others”.

“Our stand is we are for responsible parenthood. This means that first and foremost the parents should be given all the information and education on the different types of population management,” Mayor Lobregat said in an interview with City Hall reporters.

The chief executive issued these statements when asked to comment about the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill which is now pending in Congress.  “The RH bill as it is right is now stands improvement and more or less the aspect of especially abortion should really be made very clear”.
“We are pro-life,” he added.

The House of Representatives is set to resume debates on the RH bill this week as its authors and supporters hope to submit it for votation before Congress adjourns again on June 9.

As the House delays decision on the proposal, the controversy over the issue rages outside the Halls of Congress.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), strongest critic to the RH bill, has pulled out of the dialogue with Malacanang on the bill last week because of President Noynoy Aquino’s strong support for the bill’s passage into law, according to national reports. — Sheila Covarrubias
