St. Joseph of Sindangan tops PCCL reg’l hoops PDF Print E-mail

For going undefeated in the single round robin Region IX qualifier over the weekend, Saint Joseph’s College of Sindangan will now move on to the Philippine Collegiate Champions League ( PCCL) Mindanao regional finals, in Cagayan de Oro early next month.

The regional finals was hosted by the local PCCL organizers and games between the four qualifying squads, were played at the Agan Memorial Coliseum in Tetuan Saturday and Sunday last week.

PCCL Regional Eliminations competition head Joel Quintanes said Saint Joseph will play for the right to represent Mindanao with other Mindanao area qualifiers on October 7 to 9, 2014.

Quintanes added Saint Joseph College of Sindangan first downed Sibugay Technical Institute Incorporated Saturday morning  70-54 and came back afternoon of the same day to wallop Basilan State College 89-78.

It followed the twin kills Saturday by downing Universidad de Zamboanga, the local qualifier 69-64 to complete the romp.

Placing second was Basilan State College who scored two victories first over Universidad de Zamboanga 78-64 and then followed it up 82-65 over Sibugay with its lone loss inflicted by Saint Joseph.

Universidad de Zamboanga was third fiunishing with a 1-2 slate and Sibugay ended winless.

Quintanes added, the PCCL is being staged here under the auspices of the local Federacion Basketbolista de Zamboanga or FBZ and the local chapter of the Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas or the SBP both headed by Pedro Alfaro Jr.

Date and venue for the national finals will be announced later, Quintanes added.
