As some barangays have difficulty finding funds for sport activities, Mayor Beng Climaco has tasked newly-designated City Sports Development Officer IV Dr. Cecil Atilano and Sports Development Officer III Norman West to come up with a city government “Sports Development Plan”.

Climaco issued the directive when the 287-strong contingent of the city delegation that topped the “2014 Batang Pinoy (Mindanao Qualifying Leg) paid a courtesy visit on her at City hall yesterday.

Thedirective came after a report from one of the barangay officials said that only few barangays participated in the recently concluded “Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying Leg 2014,” held in Pagadian City from September 10 to 14, this year.

The Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying Leg is a grassroot-project of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

“I’m tasking Dr. Cecil Atilano and Norman West to come up with a development plan for the city and concentrating on sports that are  attainable for the city government and the barangay,” Climaco said.

“Sports fund is a component taken from the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) fund, so that we’ll be able to shine, transparent and everything clear,” Climaco added as she lauded the city’s 287-strong contingent who topped the said Mindanao-wide finals and the few barangays for their creativeness  for joining the recently concluded Batang Pinoy.

District 2 Councilor Elong Natividad, chairman of the  City Council’s Committee on Youth and Sports, also commended the Zamboangueño athletes for garnering the highest number of medals in the recently concluded Mindanao finals of “Batang Pinoy”.

Atilano said the more than 100 Zamboangueño gold medalists will receive incentives from the city government by October and will have the chance to represent the city in the “2014 National Batang Pinoy,” which is scheduled to be held in Bacolod City this yearend.

The mayor also gave due recognition to the Department of Education (DepEd) through Dr. Jane Dela Torre as the entire athletes came from DepEd. — Monch L. Follosco
