Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Elpidio de Asis Jr. stressed the need for all policemen in the region to be equipped with sound fundamentals in police work to accomplish better output in the performance of their duties.

De Asis, appearing in Cuentas Claras recently with host 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian, disclosed it is imperative that policemen be knowledgeable in basic police work such as investigation, follow up of cases and data gathering to be able to prosecute criminals and have them jailed for offences committed against society.

De Asis noted that  the police have faltered in some cases when prosecuting cases resulting in criminals walking away from jail due to sloppy police work.

The police regional chief also observed the need for policemen to be equipped logistically well with basic provision of simple needs such as firearms, communications equipment and vehicles for mobility.
If policemen are to be effective crime deterrent, they should at least be equipped with the basic needs to protect society and themselves from bad elements.

He acknowledged lack of funds have hampered efforts to upgrade police logistics over the years, but stressed this is being addressed with more emphasis now.

He acknowledged the help extended by the city government, the congressional offices here in helping the police in acquiring necessary logistics equipment and operating funds for police units in the city.

De Asis who hails from Quezon Province said while the police in the city and the region have performed creditably well, there is still much room to improve efficiency through retraining and refresher seminars on basic police work.

He stressed, the police will continue to serve the community even as he expressed hopes more warm bodies and better equipment is on the way to boost presence in the streets.
