Zambo targets 12,500 propagules in Treevolution PDF Print E-mail

The tree planting activity dubbed as “Treevolution Greening MindaNOW” will kick off today at Barangay Talon-Talon this city.

Coming out in white shirts, some 500 Zamboangueño will plant 12,500 Propagules at the 5-hectare Mangrove Area in the said barangay. Together with other six regions in Mindanao, Propagules will be planted at the City’s Designated    National Greening Program site at Barangay Talon-Talon.

Also, the said activity will serve as an attempt to break India’s world record for the most number of trees planted in one hour.

India planted 1.9 million trees in one hour. Mindanao will target 4.6 million to break the latter’s record.

The planters will be students from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Southern City Colleges, Inc. Whilst National Food Authority (NFA) and Department of Trade and Industries (DTI)-Regional Office and Zamboanga City will represent the National-Government Agencies.

Present in the event are Atty. Eduardo F. Sanson, dean of Western Mindanao State University’s College of Law and Mr. Edwin Caliolio, Southern City Colleges, Inc. President. The two men will serve as witnesses to the event. Also, a team from the Guinness World Records will be there to validate and document the event.

The Zambaonga Treevolution activity is organized by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) in coordination with the Mindanao Development Authority. — Juseph G. Elas, WMSU-OJT
