Councilor Vincent Paul Elago, chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Health and Sanitation, said yesterday he is set to attend the 2nd National Legislative Summit for the Welfare and Protection and Development  of Children scheduled  on October 20-22, 2014 at the Manila Hotel.

The theme of the summit is “Care for Children in Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils – A Barometer for Good  Governance”.

Elago said the tagline of the summit, “Bata, Alaga Ka ng Local  na Sanggunian”, speaks well of  an unwavering commitment for the mainstreaming of the advocacy for children in every local lelgislature.

He said the country has been affected by calamities, natural and man-made, and  the local Sanggunian has been witness of how the children nationwide were critically affected.

During the summit, Elago said, the local legislative stakeholders with their partners in the national government agencies will revisit commitment made during the previous summit and will formulate double plans relative to children care in times of disaster.

The  summit  is part  of the national celebration of the Children’s Month in October.

Among the committees of Sanggunian Panlungsod invited are the chairpersons of the Committee on Women Children and Family Relations, Committee on Social Services and Sanggunian secretaries.
