District 1 Councilor Charlie Mariano was appointed yesterday as chairman of a special committee formed by the City Council to tackle the issue on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law that is now in the House of Representatives.

Mariano was chosen through a votation that was jointly and severally approved  by the Council during  its regular session yesterday.

Mariano said  the people of  Zamboanga City  are very united and solid in their stand against inclusing in the proposed Bangsamoro entity.

“The people do not want to be part of any Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The people has voted “no” in two plebiscites  that the city will be not  part of  ARMM. It was an overwhelming vote. The people of the city likewise do not like also any satellite of ARMM to be stablished here,” Mariano said in an interview with reporters.

According to Mariano, the special committee will tackle issues regarding the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

He said the House Committee tackling the BBL will soon come to Mindanao to conduct public hearings. —  Allen Abastillas.
