The city is painted pink as it officially kicks off the Pink October celebration in the city.

Mayor Beng Climaco will walk alongside city officials, employees, the Local Council for Women (LCW) as well as representatives from the national and regional offices, police and military forces, academe, and various sectors to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the benefit of the Oncology/Cancer Center of the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).

Participants will assemble at 4:00PM at two points: the Zamboanga City Fire Station and the Paseo del Mar. Both groups will commence walking towards City Hall where a program – dubbed as ‘PINK Dance Party at Sundown’ – will be held.

A ceremonial lighting of City Hall with pink lights will follow at 05:30PM and a Zumba Dance Party at 06:00PM.

The Pink October celebration is spearheaded by the city’s Gender and Development (GAD) and LCW.

October is globally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year, Pink October is held to foster breast cancer awareness as well as raise funds to finance research on its prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
