2 extortion suspects arrested, charged PDF Print E-mail

Police have forwarded to the City Prosecutor Office a robbery-extortion case against two persons who were arrested in a police operation in Jolo, Sulu for extortion activity the other day

The suspects were identified as Princessjan Timbayan y Angsa, single, of Kasanyangan Village Patikul, Sulu and Rayjie Oquimas y Antes, single, a resident of Block -2, Lot-2, Kasulutan Village, Sulu.

Both were arrested by men of the Central Police Station with operatives of the Jolo Police Station during a follow-up operation.

Before their arrest, Nashrolhaq Mandangan appeared at the Central Police Station and reported that he had received a text message last September 28.demanding from him P25,000 for the safety of his family. The same message threatened him if he will not comply, something will happen to them,

The complainant and the police set up an entrapment operation together with men of the Police Station 11 and went to the main entrance of Southway Mall where Mandangan would give the P25,000.

During the operation, policemen arrested Joeyden Abdulhakim y Aguell, 34, married, of Squarelane, Tugbungan, after he received the initial P5,000 (marked money) from Mandangan.

Abdulhakim told the police that he was just instructed by his female friend PrincessJan to get the P25,000 as payment for the money Mandangan had supposedly borrowed from Princess’ aunt.

PrincessJan promised to give Abdulhakim P1,000.

Abdulhakim explained to the police and to the complainant that he had no knowledge on the alleged extortion. He switched his cell phone to loud speaker mode to let the Mandangan and the police listen a female voice instructing him to get the money.

In the recorded conversation PrincessJan told Abdulhakim to send her P24, 000 via LBC Express Marina Branch, Marina Street Barangay Walled City, Jolo, Sulu in his name Princess Jan.

After investigation, policemen proceeded to Jolo, Sulu and coordinated with the policemen in the area for a follow-up operation that resulted in the arrest of the two PrincessJan and Oquimas.

Recovered from PrincessJan’s possession was a black Nokia cellphone that was used in contacting Mandangan and Abdulhakim. — Dan Toribio Jr.
