Last Sunday, Sept. 28, in observance of World Rabies Day, the City Veterinarian Office also organized a Dog Walk at the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca.

World Rabies Day was a global movement to raise awareness on rabies and rabies-caused sufferings.

Per record from the World Health Organization (WHO), rabies is a disease that is transmitted from animals to humans. It is known to be present in more than 150 countries and territories and on all continents except Antarctica. It is estimated that tens of thousands of deaths occur annually from rabies with more human deaths occur in Asia than anywhere else in the world with Africa not far behind in numbers.

Some 84% of deaths from rabies occur in rural areas, with 4 out of every 10 deaths being a child. Rabies is a vaccine-preventable disease. — Sheila Covarrubias
