Philippine National Police Chief Director General Allan LM. Purisima and Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Edgar O. Basbas led yesterday the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a two-storey building intended for a multi-purpose function hall at Camp Batalla along R.T. Lim Boulevard.

The two-storey building will be constructed at the site of the infamous Cawa-Cawa siege which was the headquarters  of the defunct Police Regional Command -9 where Regional Commander Brig. Gen. Eduardo B. Batalla and Col. Romeo Abendan were killed by renegade policemen led by Rizal Alih.

During yesterday’s ceremony. Purisima and Basbas shovelled find sand to bury a time capsule where  the master plan of the building is inserted

Purisima commended Basbas for the finalization of the building that will benefit the police and the community as a whole in all its endeavors and activities saying the building is very useful for various occasions.

Basbas said the project has long been awaited because many activities of PRO-9 were oftentimes delayed or postponed because of lack of facilities.

He said with the realization of the project. activities such as conferences,  meetings, indoor trainings, schooling of personnel  and other activities.

The source of funds for the project came from the PNP trust that was received for the first quarter calendar year of 2013. The building’s floor area  is 320 square meters.  Kim Joan Construction company will undertake the project.

The P5-million project is expected to be completed  in 180 days. — Allen Abastillas
