Flash flood destroys 2 houses in Sinunuc PDF Print E-mail

Two houses were washed away by flashfloods in Sinunuc following heavy rains   yesterday morning. No casualties were reported.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer-in-charge Elmeir Apolinario, Ph.D. said the houses were made of light materials and built along the riverbank in Purok 7 Kapatid Drive, Sinunuc.

Among the families displaced were those of Crisanto Baldesma with 4 dependents and Rommel Miranda with 3 dependents. They are now temporarily staying with their relatives in the area nearby.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office has been tasked to provide immediate relief assistance to the affected families.

For the past few days, Zamboanga City has been experiencing rainshowers and thunderstorms brought about by the inter-tropical convergence zone in Luzon.

Mayor Climaco has advised river dwellers and those residing in low lying areas to be wary of rising water level in view of the continuous inclement weather. She likewise asked barangay officials, police and military personnel to monitor the situation in their area.

Apolinario and his personnel are continuously monitoring situation and are ready to coordinate efforts with concerned agencies in times of emergencies.

Apolinario said the flashflood has subsided however, if rains continue, those residing along river banks should take precaution and to heed advises of barangay officials. — Sheila Covarrubias
