1 dead, 11 arrested in Sta. Maria drug raid PDF Print E-mail

A man said to be a former soldier was killed and 11 others were rounded up in a raid in Villa Sta. Maria as police intensified the campaign against drugs and illegal firearms  in Zamboanga City.

The Villa Sta. Maria raid came just 24 hours after another operation in Caragasan netted 14 drug suspects, including four women.

Those arrested in yesterday’s raid also included four women and a former Sta. Maria kagawad identified as Ricky Jimenea.

Police said one of the suspects identified as Sakir Bakil Iyang,  was shot after he resisted arrest and tried to fight it out with the raiders from the Sta. Maria police station.

The raiders seized several sachets of  shabu, drug paraphernalia, 2 45 caliber pistols 1 22 caliber revolver, 1 22 caliber rifle and 1 grenade.

Sta. Maria police station chief Supt. Diomarie Albarico told reporters that before the raid, they had already received many information about drug activities in Villa Sta. Maria.

Last Sunday, men of the Zamboanga City Police Office led by Sr. Insp. Hingming Ladjaali armed with search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court raided the three houses following reports of drug activities in Caragasan, Barangay Maasin

The first house raided resulted in the arrest of 10 men and the seizure of drugs and guns.

Nabbed were Alvin Balani, Jacky Baldani, Absal Baldani, Nasar Baldani, Basil Mohammad, Abdula Sarabi, Alden Arapa, Kahal Into, Jaymar Gonzales and Christopher Bantoto. Recovered from their possession was a .45 caliber pistol, assorted drug paraphernalia and assorted ammunition.

Collared at the second house were Wajan Ammad and Kasla Ammad. Recovered from their possession were a. 22 caliber revolver, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia and ammunition.

Arrested at the third house were Abraham Samsawi and Isning Samsawi. Confiscated from their possession were a .38 caliber revolver, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, men of the Culianan Police Station under Sr. Insp. Helen Galvez arrested two persons during a drug bust operation at Calle Real, Mercedes last Saturday.

Nabbed were Jayson Barredo y Rodriguez, 28, married and Jesus Noel Barredo y Fernandez, 49, married.

Confiscated from their possession were four sachets of suspected shabu and drug araphernalia.

The suspects were detained while the seized items were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.

Meanwhile, Benhar Habibain, 31, single, of Maasin was arrested by barangay officials of Lunzuran for possession of shabu. He was turned over to the police.

Confiscated from Benhar’s possession was a plastic sachet containing supsected shabu, and drug paraphernalia.

Police said before Benhar’s arrest around 5:30 p.m., He beat his live-in-partner. They were invited to the barangay office of Lunzuran, where officials recovered a sachet containing suspected shabu from him.

Benhar was detained at the Divisoria Police Station for the filing of charges. – With report from Dan Toribio Jr.
