A man sustained slight burns in the arms while an 83-year-old woman collapsed as fire broke out in two houses at Acapulco Drive, Canelar at noon yesterday.

Josefina Rojas, 83, was seen by this reporter receiving first aid from a traffic enforcer and was later attended to by Philippine Red Cross paramedics, along with a man who suffered burns in his arms.

It was gathered that the fire started at the house of the Dela Cruz family and scattered to the Rojas residence.

Firemen placed the fire under control in less than an hour.

Other residents in the area evacuate with their valuables fearing that the flames would reach their homes.

Firemen faced difficulty in fighting the flames as the pathway leading to the fire scene is so narrow that even a motorcycle could not pass through it.

Mrs. Rojas collapsed when she saw flames threatening their house. She was immediately brought out of the house by her relatives. The man who suffered burns in the arms, was trying to retrieve some valuables from their house.

Fire investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire. – Dan Toribio Jr.
