The Philippine Air Force’s 530th Air Base Wing based at Edwin Andrews Air Base in Sta. Maria celebrated yesterday its 59th founding anniversary with the theme, “530th Air Base Wing at 59 Soaring High with the Mindanaons for Lasting Peace and Development..

Guest of honor was Lt. Gen. Jeffrey F. Delgado, PAF commanding general.

In his message, Delgado commended the 530th family for its projects in adopting a barangay, a mountain, a school and a creek,

“Ang ginawa niyo ay simbolo sa kapayapaan. Lumalaban kayo sa terorismo, lawless at kriminalidad para sa mamayan ng Mindanao  for peace and development. Thanks to the awardees for their unselfish support to the PAF. I encourages you to continue to study and learn new knowledge for your own development,” Delgado said.

Wing Commander Brig. Gen.  Anselmo Doroteo P. Junsay  told the airmen that as a team they should always stay steadfast and strong for the people of Zamboanga City and the whole of Mindanao.

“We revived the Ugnayan sa Barangay and we will continue doing it for health sanitation awareness, security, disaster prevention, environment preservation and protection for peaceful community,” Junsay said.

The awardees in yesterday’s occasion are: Military awards recipients — Edwin Andrews Air Base Hospital (Group of the Year), 532th Civil Engineering Squadron (Squadron of the year), 1Lt. Edmund T. Maatubang (Officer of the year), TSgt. Luis F. Francisco (NCO of the year), Sgt. Melvin Angeles, (Airman of the Year) and Mrs. Noelita F. Laranjo (Civilian Employee of the Year. Special awardees are: 545th Engineering Construction Battalion of the Philippine Army, Zamboanga City Engineer’s Office, Department of Public Works and Highways IX, Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative, Zamboanga Water District, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, Barangay Sta. Maria, Barangay Canelar and Richard C. Rojo. — Allen Abastilas
