The City Agriculturist’s Office spearheads today the Fisherfolk Congress and Aqua Fair intended to strengthen linkages between the local government and non-government organizations concerned with the fishery business.

City agriculturist Diosdado Palacat estimates some 200 fisherfolks and fishery industry players coming from the six agricultural districts of Ayala, Tumaga, Culianan, Manicahan, Curuan and Vitali, to attend the day-long event at the Marcian Convention Center.

The affair will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8am followed by the opening program. It will be highlighted by series of lectures, session and film showing.

A topic concerning the effects of natural disasters on aquatic resources will be one of the major issues to be discussed.

The participants shall be clustered into groups. Group 1 would include fishpond operators, Group 2 will be composed of seaweed farmers and fishermen while the last group will be handle the fishery establishments.

The event, which is an annual undertaking is one of the initiatives of the city government intended to promote the agriculture sector in Zamboanga.
