River overflows triggering mass evacuation in ZS PDF Print E-mail

Incessant rains brought about by Typhoon Chedeng caused a river to overflow triggering mass evacuation in three barangays in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur last weekend.

A police report disclosed that hundreds of families in Barangays Susudlon, Culo, and Sudlon, in Molave have evacuated after the river connecting the said barangays swelled and overflowed about 4:30 p.m.

Officials and personnel from the Molave municipal government with the help of non-government organizations immediately rushed to the affected barangays and assisted the affected residents through relief operations.

The police report said the residents were temporarily sheltered at the municipal gymnasium while some were brought to churches for their safety.

Earlier continuous heavy downpour spawned by Typhoon Chedeng  battered the province for several hours, swellinf many rivers.

Molave municipality was one of the municipalities in the province that was severely affected by the strong typhoon.

Meanwhile, the municipal government is now conducting assessment on the damage to properties and agricultural products, while relief operation continues. —  Noning R. Antonio
