City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo yesterday disclosed that the police have forwarded a murder case to the City Prosecutor Office against a man who brutally killed an old man in his residence in Tumaga three weeks ago.

De Ocampo said that the filing of the case came after the Sta. Maria police identified the suspect as a result of their relentless investigation and gathering of information from witnesses.

According to the police chief, the murder case against Jomarie Cruz was submitted to the prosecutor office last May 23 under Criminal Case No.IX-06-INV-IIE-00213 and was duly administered by lawyer Nicolas Apolinario Jr.

Cruz, who is a resident of Jollyroy Drive, Tumaga, was positively identified by witnesses as the one who killed Filomeno Fabian Jr., 75, a pensioner of Tumaga.

Some of the witnesses told the police that Cruz was seen at the vicinity of Fabian’s house before and after the incident.

De Ocampo said that Cruz remains at large. He assured that the latter will be arrested as soon as the court will issue a warrant of arrest.

De Ocampo added that the Sta. Maria police have already submitted all the evidences and sworn statements of witnesses against Cruz.

To recall, Fabian was discovered dead by his older brother in his house last May 4 around 6 a.m. He sustained injuries in the different parts of the body.

The police chief said his men are also working on other cases involving the fatal shooting of victims last week.

He added that the police are also exerting efforts to prevent crimes in Zamboanga City. — Dan Toribio Jr.
