City gov’t gives financial aid to calamity victims PDF Print E-mail

The City Government yesterday distributed cash assistance to families affected by various forms of calamities that hit their barangay the past months.

Mayor Climaco together with representatives from the City Social Welfare Office and the City Treasurer’s Office handed over the cash assistance to 17 displaced families at City Hall Thursday afternoon.

Of the 17 families affected, 8 were affected by the fire in Sta. Maria last August 16; 2 families were affected by the fire in Patalon last August 17 and in Talon-talon last August 18; 3 families were displaced by the strong rains last July 28 and August 4 and 2 were affected by strong winds in Labuan last August 19.

Eleven of the affected families, whose houses were totally damaged received P5,000 each while 6 whose houses were partially ruined got P3,000 each.

The amount, set by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (previously the City Disaster Council), is to augment the families’ resources for the purchase of house materials or other requirements.

The amount distributed reached P73,000.

The grant of  financial assistance to victims of calamities or crisis situations is part of the social services of the city government and is facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. — Sheila Covarrubias
