Mayor Beng Climaco has expressed gratitude to the police and military forces for their efforts in ensuring peace and tranquility during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2 respectively.

She likewise commended the barangay officials and volunteers and the public in general for the support and cooperation they have given to the authorities particularly in compliance of Executive Order 81 promulgating rules and guidelines in public cemeteries and EO 82 imposing traffic rerouting scheme in roads leading to major cemeteries in the city.

The EOs took effect from 12am November 1 to 5pm November 2, the period that mostly refer to as “Undas”.

Mayor Climaco as early as Friday, October 31 started making rounds of the different cemeteries- both public and private to observe the situation and to assess the enforcement of security measures and the executive orders.

The mayor cited the support and cooperation of all sectors that led to the orderly observance of religious activities.

As of 4pm yesterday, Nov. 2, the City Police Office reported no major incidents in cemeteries under its area of responsibility. Nevertheless, police authorities together with personnel from Task Force Zamboanga continue to provide security.

The authorities observed visitors in cemeteries gradually dropped Nov. 2, Sunday. Based on record, the police confiscated 20 bladed weapons and no reports on liquor sale or drinking neither gambling activities inside cemeteries from Nov. 1 to Nov. 2.  — Sheila Covarrubias
