Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday spearheaded the city government in unveiling the Mayor Cesar Climaco commemorative portraits at Plaza Rizal and opening the exhibit of CCC’s personal effects at the City Hall lobby kicking off the weeklong observance of Dia de Cesar.

The activities lead up to the Dia de Cesar on Friday, November 14, marking the day when Cesar Climaco was felled by an assassins bullet 30 years ago.

The commemorative portraits speak of the life and legacy of Cesar Cortez Climaco- Carisma or charm, Coraje or courage and Compasion or Compassion. The exhibit on the other hand displays the numerous memorabilia, personal effects and artifacts including the motorcycle that the late mayor used to go around town unmindful of his security.

“Carisma, Coraje y Compasion are the trademarks of Uncle Cesar. 30 years ago, on line of duty, he was assassinated and I think that is a challenge to me, a Climaco, serving as the youngest of their generation of grandchildren of Isabel Cortez Climaco, to be ready on the line of duty,” Mayor Beng Climaco declared during the flag raising ceremony.

Addressing City government employees, she said “we all need to imitate Cesar Cortes Climaco for his courage, compassion and also in the line of duty, carisma.”

On Friday, Nov. 13 at 4pm, the city is organizing a parade from the Climaco residence in STa. Maria to the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong. It will be followed by a variety show at 6pm at the Freedom park and the lighting of candles and offering of flowers at the assassination site in Camino Nuevo at 9pm.

On November 14, the activities will start with a mass at 7pm at the Sta. Maria Parish Church to be followed by the commemorative program at 8am at the Climaco Freedom Park. At 2pm will be the extemporaneous speaking contest and quiz bowl at the City Hall lobby.

On behalf of the Climaco family, Mayor Beng Climaco thanked everyone for remembering the legendary CCC as she urged them to share their stories of Mayor Cesar Climaco “so that this generation and the generations to come will remember the heroism of a person who has given his life to Zamboanga.”
