Police have unmasked the perpetrators of the twin bombings that injured a policeman along Tomas Claudio St.  last Sunday, November 9.

Sleuths of the City Police Office gathered that four Abu Sayyaf bombers from Basilan executed the bomb attacks which happened some 100 meters from the central police station downtown.

One was identified as a certain Yasser alias Yas, while two of them were twin with one cohort — all followers of Abu Sayyaf commander Puruji Indama, all natives of Barangay Baguindan, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

Police described Yasser as more or less 22 years old, 5’6 in height, estimated 55 kilograms in weight, small built, brown complexion with long curly hair (shoulder level); the second suspect was described as twin brother 1 — more or less 20 years old, 5’4 in height, about 54 kilograms in weight, small built, brown complexion with short straight hair; twin brother 2  is more or less 20 years old, 5’6 in height, around 60 kilograms, brown complexion with short curly hair and the fourth suspect was more or less 20 years old, 5’5" in  height, small built, white complexion with short straight hair.

This breakthrough in the investigation of the twin bombings were made by investigators led by Sr. Insp. Arlan Delumpines.

Delumpines and his men immediately went to work the day after the bombing and were able to trace the origin of the plastic container used by the bomber in the second explosion that injured PO2 Manuel Franklin Ined and the sniffing dog.

The dog named Diego was dubbed as a “hero’ because he sniffed and immediately detected the improvised explosive device (IED) which gave Ined just enough time to rush away and cheated death.

Delumpines and his men found out that the official receipt attached to the recovered plastic bag which was used as wrapper to conceal the plastic container that contained the IED was bought from Unitop Convenience Store last November 8, 2014  whicj was confirmed by the store’s sales clerk after it was shown to her.

The sales clerk told investigators that around 4 p.m. on November 8, a man with description that fits a cartographic sketch, which was shown to her, bought one green plastic container. On November 9, the same person bought two other plastic containers colored green and pink.

The pieces of the plastic containers recovered at the blast site matched the containers that were bought from the store.

Police were still making follow-up operations in a bid to get the bombers.

Moreover, nformation gathered by the police revealed that before the twin blasts, the four suspects stayed at the bunk house of Gafur Pingli in Barangay Taluksangay. — Dan Toribio Jr.
