DIPOLOG CITY – Mayor Evelyn T. Uy here has received the Jesse Robredo Most Outstanding Mayor award during the recent general assembly of the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, Inc. (PFLCW) in Tagaytay City, Cavite.

The lady mayor’s effort in conceptualizing the project dubbed “The Dipolog City Boulevard: Towards Effective Urban Renewal” gained her award as “Mahusay at Matino na Alkalde” (competent and honest mayor).

The project aims to solve socio-economic and environmental problems brought about by informal settlers along the city’s coastal areas particularly barangays Central and Miputak by transforming the place into a venue for recreation and economic activities among residents especially the women.

The PFLCW has launched such an award in honor and memory of former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Jesse Robredo who exemplified  good governance, transparency and faithful stewardship. It sought to recognize the efforts of municipal and city mayors in institutionalizing good governance and implementing economic empowerment programs.

The local chief executives were being rated on the following criteria: quality of outstanding contribution, impact of performance or contribution, reliability and effectiveness, and consistency of performance.

The creation of the city boulevard has been recognized by the PFLCW as an effective imprint of the kind of urbanization that offers an economic expansion enjoyed not only by a few but the majority vis-à-vis environmental preservation.

This project has also been chosen as one of the ten outstanding local governance programs during the Galing Pook Awards 2014 held at EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Manila last Oct. 21.
