Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Elpidio De Asis Jr., yesterday handed over P90,000 reward to an informant who provided information that led to the arrest of one of the most wanted and notorious persons in Zamboanga City last December.

The turn-over of the monetary reward took place at Camp Batalla at 1:30 p.m. yesterday.
De Asis said the reward was officially approved by the Department of Interior of Local Government pursuant to DILG MC number 2008-09.

The police regional director disclosed that the informant played a very special role in the community as he was responsible for providing information as to the whereabouts of Baniser Amping that led to his arrest last December 11, 2010.

De Asis further disclosed that through the information of the informant, operatives of the City Police Office under City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo swooped down on a house in Locson Drive, Talon-Talon and arrested Amping.

Amping was wanted for murder and frustrated murder. The warrants of arrest were issued by Judge Reynerio Estacio of the 9th Judicial Region, Regional Trial Court Branch 14.

Based on police records, Amping had been involved in a series of criminalities in Talon-Talon, Mampang and other parts of the city.

Amping is presently detained at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center.
De Asis added that through the reward system, the police can arrest wanted persons with the information from the public.
De Asis also lauded the Intelligence Section, Detective Management Unit and Anti-Vice Section and other units of the City Police Office under De Ocampo who exerted efforts for the arrest of Amping.
He said their office is open to anyone who wishes to give information regarding the whereabouts of wanted persons in the region. — Dan Toribio Jr.
