LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them…” (Isaiah 1:23, the Holy Bible).

REBUKE IN SM’S SOLAR PANELS: There is a strong rebuke somewhere in the installation of solar panels for the SM North EDSA branch of Henry Sy’s super malls last November 24, 2014, an occasion participated in by President Aquino no less, together with Secretary Jericho Petilla of the Department of Energy, and of House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr.

Imagine, there is now concrete proof that abundant electric power can come from the sun, energize an area as big as an entire branch of a super mall like SM North EDSA, and remove the dependence of businessmen like Henry Sy and his company on petroleum and gasoline products to generate electricity, which translates into saving millions and millions of pesos in electric cost.

What is more, according to published reports, each SM department store which uses solar panels can even save around P2 million a month! Now, if SM found the beneficial use of solar panels for its malls across the country and even in one of its branches abroad, why can’t Aquino, Petilla, and Belmonte do the same thing?

THE TRUTH ABOUT EMERGENCY POWERS AND SOLAR PANELS: I mean, the switching on of SM’s solar panels the other day constituted a strong rebuke against Aquino and Petilla who have been moving heaven and earth, to the extent of resurrecting even the Supreme Court-discredited pork barrel funds to compel lawmakers to toe the line once more, for emergency powers to be given to him as president.

As it were, someone up there was in effect telling Aquino and Petilla that emergency powers are not necessary to address the supposed energy shortage that is touted to hit the country by March or April next year. It is as if someone up there is saying, there is no need for any emergency powers for Aquino, to allow him to spend, by his own say so, some P430 billion in government money.

All that is needed, it is clear by now, is just a little bit of heart for the welfare of Filipinos in the search for solutions to the supposed energy crisis next year. And this could be found in simple, yet effective and less expensive solutions, to the power crisis,  in the form of solar panels as Hnery Sy’s SM is doing now.

P430 BILLION FOR POWER NEEDS? GO SOLAR PANEL! Yet we now know that the Aquino government really does not have even just a little bit of heart for the welfare of the Filipinos. What it is more interested in is to cash in on the issue of fabricated power shortage and thereby generate billions of pesos which, perhaps, it could use to support its candidates for president, vice president, and senators in 2016.

For the truth must be told: if Aquino is given emergency powers by the House of Representatives (that was why Belmonte was present during the SM North EDSA solar panel switching ceremony) and by the Senate, he would then be empowered to spend the P430 billion or so emergency funds in any manner he fancies, without the usual bidding, and without his expenditures being contested later.

Since the accepted fact, nationwide and internationally, says that corruption in the Philippines is to the extent of about 40% of government contracts—meaning that, some 40% of government funds go to corrupt officials as “commissions”—it would be clear that somebody is going to get some P170 billion or so from the P430 billion emergency funds. P170 billion is a lot of money for several presidential campaigns, if you ask me!
