Mayor Beng Climaco had issued an executive order, temporarily closing to vehicular traffic a section of the old bridge in Barangay Cawit due to ongoing expansion work on the said bridge.

At the same time, the mayor in her EO BC 86-2014 also imposed a temporary rerouting of vehicular traffic on Cawit road from December 1, 2014 to January 30, 2015, pending completion of the road rehabilitation and retrofitting of existing bridge.

To recall, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has lined up several infrastructure projects for implementation in the west coast of this city, one of which is the road rehabilitation, replacement and retrofitting of the existing permanent bridge in Cawit.

The project is expected for completion in two months’ time.

The need for temporary closure and rerouting of traffic came about because the work entails elevating the existing RCDG Bridge girder, construction of bridge approached A, B and construction of bridge slab.

In lieu thereof, the district engineer has requested for the use of Tulungatung road as alternate route of vehicles plying the routes beyond Cawit in the west coast up to Labuan and Limpapa and down to the city proper.

In her order, Climaco advised the contractor to ensure all necessary safety and warning devices are provided, and that personnel be assigned in the area to assist in traffic management.— Vic Larato
