Mayor Beng Climaco has issued an executive order, declaring Nov. 28, 2014 and every year thereafter as Area-Based Standard Network (ABSNET) Day in Zamboanga City.

The ABSNET was created in 2008 through Administrative Order No. 18 of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in an effort to strengthen cooperation and coordination among area-based intermediaries to promote quality implementation of social welfare and development programs and services for its constituents.

The ABSNET Zamboanga City and Isabela City Cluster, meanwhile, was formally organized in 2009 with former Zamboanga City mayor, Engr. Efren Arañez, as its first president.

At present, the cluster has 40 members representing the different non-government agencies implementing social welfare programs and services with Philippine Red Cross Zamboanga City Chapter Administrator Dr. Victor A. Liozo as the Regional ABSNET Federation president.

The declaration of ABSNET Day in Zamboanga City through Executive Order BC88-2014 dated Nov. 26 was timed with the conduct of the 2nd Regional ABSNET Convention from Nov. 27-28, 2014 at the Grand Astoria Hotel, this city.

The two-day convention was anchored on the theme “ABSNET: Moving Forward for a Quality Social Welfare Development Programs and Services Implementation”.

Copies of the executive order were furnished to DSWD Regional Director Zenaida L. Arevalo, Dr. Liozo and all concerned agencies. — Vic Larato
