Another IED found

in Lamitan City

 

Men of the Joint Task Group Zamboanga (JTGZ) and Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) arrested another Abu Sayyaf member, identified as Wahid Pingli alias Gaffur at Barangay Landang Laum, Sacol Island, Zamboanga City.

Pingli has a pending warrant of arrest docketed under Criminal Case Nr. 23708 for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention issued by Judge Reynerio G. Estacio of Branch 14, Regional Trial Court-Zamboanga City.

Pingli, an Abu Sayyaf member based in Zamboanga City, was involved in the series of kidnappings of the following victims: 1) Inocente Bautista, a businessman, who was abducted on May 27, 2008 in Barangay Tetuan, Zamboanga City and subsequently released on June 9 of the same year in Barangay Manicahan, and of Vicente Barrios, 60, who was abducted on June 17, 2010 in Barangay Bolong, Zamboanga City and subsequently released on August 21 of the same year.

Recovered from Pingli were the following items: an ELISCO M16A1 (Armalite rifle) with serial number RPO 45896; a short magazine; and 17 rounds of live M16 cartridge.

The military’s Wesmincom said the arrest was made possible through  the joint law enforcement operations of the AFP and PNP to expedite arrest of lawless elements in the area.

In Lamitan City, Basilan, another improvised explosive device (IED) was found in Barangay Bulanting, Lamitan City Thursday afternoon.

Ens. Chester Ian Ramos, spokesperson of the military Joint Task Force for Basulta area, said the IED was found around 5:10 p.m.

Ramos said men of the Joint Task Groupsnd the Basilan Explosive Ordnance Division immediately responded and secured the area where the bomb was found.

He said the IED was confirmed after a verification and was later detonated by the EOD team.
