Fire razes 3 DepEd, WMSU buildings PDF Print E-mail

Three buildings of the Department of Education and Western Mindanao State University were razed in a fire that broke out at noon yesterday.

The fire was spotted to have originated at the second floor of the sattelite office of the Department of Education and and had quickly spread to the other buildings in the compound along Normal Road in Baliwasan.

Because of the short distance to the secondary laboratory building of WMSU, the entire building was damaged in the blaze.

Firetrucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Filipino Chinese Chambers Volunteer Fire Brigade, Philippine Air Force and Western Mindanao Command joined to fight the fire.

Water trucks from the Zamboanga City Water Diustrict also supplied water to fight help battle the flames.

The fire was placed under control in less than an hour with no reported serious casualty except for a woman who sustained slight injury in the body.

Several believed to be  important documents inside the three buildings turned into ashes.

Fire investigators under Fire Marshall Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr., were still trying to determine the cause of the fire and also assessing the total damage. – Dan Toribio Jr.
