The second wave of the information caravan for IDPs concluded Thursday afternoon (December 12), culminating the series of face-to-face communication and dialogue initiative with the home-based IDPs.

Two information sessions were simultaneously spearheaded by the Communications Working Group (CWG) to accommodate the more than 500 home-based IDPs who trooped to Centro Latino for the caravan.

As with previous caravans, representatives from the different clusters involved in the rehabilitation work under the Z3R plan were on hand to provide progress reports and at the same time, answer concerns voiced out by home-based IDPs during the open forum.

Addressing the concerns of home-based IDPs were Engr. Reynaldo Bolay-og of the National Housing Authority (NHA), who gave an overview on the status of the different housing projects, Dr. Carlito Rubares of the Office of the Agriculture for livelihood updates, Assistant Social Welfare and Development Officer Leonida Bayan for social services provided for home-based IDPs, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Kibtiya Uddin for health services, Housing Division Chief Rodrigo Pagotaisidro for tagging and census, and Engr. Gleiza Caseres of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the road packages.

To facilitate more efficient feedback and communication, social preparations were undertaken by the CWG and its volunteers in order to orient and level expectations of participating IDPs. Questions, inquiries, and other concerns were noted for referral to resource persons and service providers for action and update.

The Information Caravan is a series of face-to-face dialogue and interaction of IDPs with members of the rehabilitation team to address communication gaps and needs. It seeks to empower all IDPs, whether home-based, or living in evacuation centers and transitory sites, with accurate and proper information.

The caravan for home-based IDPs is the final activity for the second wave information series. Prior to the home-based IDPs, the caravan completed its visit to eight major evacuation and transitory sites – Mampang TS, Buggoc TS, Taluksangay TS, Rio Hondo TS, Tulungatung TS, the Grandstand, the PTSI TS, and the Paniran Silsillah TS. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
