A detainee at the central police station was shot and wounded after he went berserk while trying to escape last Saturday night.

Marlon Alegre Homantoc, being detained for a case of frustrated murder, got wild and punched Edmer Jimenez, .another detainee.

PO2 Roberto Francisco, duty detention officer, tried to stop Alegre while he sought assistance from other policemen on duty.

To avoid serious situation, Francisco and colleagues decided to transfer Homantoc to another detention cell, but would not calm down.

At this point, SPO2 Vicente Antonio Verallo Jr., arrived to help Francisco, but Homantoc resisted and ran towards the office of the Patrol Section which was located a few steps from the detention cell.

Police said when Homantoc was inside the office, he destroyed several office equipment and turned off the light.

Then Homantoc broke the window glass of the patrol section office and at the same time grabbed a knife and attacked PO1 Arsam Sakilin. Then he jumped out of the window which prompted PO2 Jaidin Sabdula to shoot him in the left cheek.

Homantoc was taken to the hospital for treatment while charges were being readied against him. — Dan Toribio
