The City Council on Tuesday approved on second reading an ordinance establishing  a cockpit in Barangay Putik.

Councilor Vincent Paul “VP” Elago,  chairman of the Council’s Committee  on Tourism, said he favors the establishment of a cockpit in Putik based on the statement from City Legal Office made during the session  that it is legal to establish another cockpit in the city.

This reporter gathered that at present there are cockpits in the barangays of Labuan, Ayala, Pitogo- Sinunuc, San Roque, Tumaga, Talon-Talon, Mercedes, Sangali, Pasonanca and Curuan.

Critics observe that Zamboanga City is not only the “Sardines Capital of the Philippines, or Latin City or City of Flowers but also “Sabungan Capital” of the Philippines. — Allen Abastillas
