Zamboanga City District Fire Marshall Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr.disclosed yesterday that fire investigators under him are still investigating the fire that razed three buildings of the Department of Education and Western Mindanao Sate University on December 8 along Normal Road, Baliwasan.

Zabala said the Investigators are looking into two angles behind the blaze: arson and faulty wiring.

Earlier unconfirmed reports said the fire that destroyed some P10 million worth of properties was intentional, but Zabala said his men are still digging deeper into the case.

“We have the name of the suspect (arsonist) but we withheld it so that it will not jeopardize the ongoing investigation. After the result of the investigation. We will file charges against the suspect,” Zabala said.

On the other hand, Zamboanga City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro told this reporter that if the Zamboanga City District Fire Marshall Office completed its investigation and the suspect is identified, thereafter, if they will forward the complaint to ZCPO. his  men will arrest the subject under his order.

Initial investigation showed the fire started at the second floor of DepEd’s satellite office.

Firefighters of the Bureau Fire Protection, Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade, Philippine Air Force and Western Mindanao Command Fire Brigade helped each battled the fire.
