City rewards PNP, AFP units in hostage-taking response PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco on Monday presented to the different police and military units the city government’s reward for their prompt response to the hostage-taking incident in Baliwasan last November.

The reward of P20,000 per unit was presented to Zamboanga City Police Office Director Col. Angelito Casimiro  and the chiefs of the different police units as well as to Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Andrelino Colina during simple  rites held at the City Hall conference room after the Monday flag raising ceremony.

Mayor Climaco was assisted by City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. in presenting the checks to the police and military forces.

The list of PNP/AFP units and leaders who received the reward were Col. Casimiro, Special Action Force through Maj. Reynald Ariño,  Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) through PSupt. Ariel Huesca, Police Station 11 through PSupt. Allan Nazarro, Anti-Kidnapping Group-Western Mindanao through Supt. Wanky, Regional Headquarters-9 Medical Team through Supt. Mates and TFZ through Col. Colina.

The mayor said the City Government is very grateful to the police and military units for their swift and prudent response that led to the successful resolution of the hostage-taking incident in Baliwasan.

Speaking on behalf of the police, Col. Casimiro thanked the city for the reward system and said that the amount will be put together for the purchase of a multi-media equipment for use of the ZCPO.

In the said hostage-taking incident, the husband of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) held his two sons hostage inside their house at Manggal Drive, Baliwasan for nine hours. The incident ended peacefully as the suspect was arrested and the victims safely retrieved. — Sheila Covarrubias
