Men of the PNP’s Zamboanga City Public Safety Company led by Supt. Ariel Huesca confiscated several drug paraphernalia, gambling machines and a hand grenade during an internal security operation at Purok 5, Recodo yesterday afternoon.

Huesca’s men also held six persons for interrogation.

A police report disclosed that Huesca and his men accompanied by bomb experts swooped down on Recodo around 1 p.m.as part of their continuing operation against prohibited drugs, illegal gambling and other ilegal activities in the area.

When the police troopers arrived, residents who were acting suspiciously, suddenly scampered in different directions then closed the doors of their houses.

The lawmen surrounded a house after seeing one of the occupants pulled a grenade, removed its safety pin and tried to lob it on the police team. But before he could throw the grenade, policemen held him and confiscated the explosive from his possession.

An unidentified man was chased by the police troopers after he was spotted carrying. But he eluded arrest.

The raiders also recovered several drug paraphernalia and gambling machines during the raid.

Police said that they were facing difficulty running after criminal elements in the area as all the residents were aiding each other and not cooperating with them.— Dan Toribio
