PAGADIAN CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here has recorded zero firecracker-related incidents on Christmas day and New Year’s Eve, respectively.

City Fire Marshall Sr. Inspector Reggy Olmedo said that there were three frie incidents in the city last December but these were not firecracker-related.

Olmedo said the BFP’s goal of achieving zero pyrotechnics-related fire incident was attributed to the strict implementation of its fire safety awareness and prevention drive dubbed “Oplan Paalala 2014:  Iwas Paputok, Sakuna at Sunog which carries the theme: “Nakahandang Pangalagaan Kaligtasan ng Mamamayan Ngayong Pasko at Bagong Taon.”

Olmedo also expressed his gratitude to the Pagadianons for actively supporting the campaign.

“I thank all Pagadianons for actively supporting our program, thus helping us achieve our goal of making Pagadian a fire safe city during Holiday season,” Olmedo announced.

“I hope that this good practice will be observed not only during Holiday season but the whole year-round,” he added.

Olmedo said the significant part of the campaign was the fire truck’s visibility, reminding the public about fire safety prevention tips through its built-in public address system.

The BFP has also held a radio program and distributed fire prevention pamphlets in Tagalog to the public from Dec. 16 to Jan. 1, 2015.

The fire chief said he was very happy with the success of the campaign this Holiday season where there was no single building went up in smoke due to fireworks.

It could be recalled that a fire, believed to have come from firecrackers, gutted a house right at the back of the fire station here on Dec. 24, 2013. — FPG/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur
