The Department of Agriculture through its Support to Emergency and Livelihood Assistance Project-2 (SELAP-2) has constructed P7.2 million concreted farm-to-market road in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Department of Agriculture Regional Director Constancio Alama in a statement Tuesday said the newly completed one-kilometer farm-to-market-road links the barangays of Gango and Balangsag in the municipality of R.T. Lim.

Alama said the completion of the project will improved road accessibility to 18 hectares of rice, 12 hectares of corn, 30 hectares of mango, 30 hectares of banana, 20 hectares of coconuts and three hectares of vegetables.

The farm-to-market-road also benefitted 346 households, including farmers and students as there is a school at the project site.

Alama encouraged the farmers to plant more and even consider staple food like cassava, which is a potential commodity that will help augment farmers’ income to include its byproducts.

“Transporting our agri-products will no longer be a problem, the road is now passable to all types of vehicles,” Lidilla Cubol, one of the farmer-beneficiaries of the project, said.

The farm-to-market-road project was recently turned-over by Alama to R.T. Lim Mayor Michael Piodena. — TPG
