District 1 Rep. Lilia Nuño, in line with her thrust on agriculture, on Tuesday urged every household, especially the housewives, to do backyard gardening.

Nuño said backyard gardening will benefit the family in terms of health and economics since they will be spending less as they can produce their own vegetables.

Nuño said it is easy and economical to maintain a backyard garden since a family can utilize their kitchen waste as organic fertilizer.

She said vegetables can be grown even in small area or pots and is affordable since they would only spend more or less Php 50 to buy the seeds.

She said the family can also earn extra income by selling their backyard garden produce.

Nuño herself has her own backyard garden where plants lettuce, ladies’ finger (okra), string beans, and tomatoes.

Meanwhile, Nuño said she will focus on agriculture to help improve the lives of farmers in her district.

Nuño’s district covers 61 of this city’s 98 barangays. — RGAAG
