Tricycle operators in the City are reminded to pay their franchise tax on or before the set deadline on January 20.

The Tricycle Adjudication Board (TAB) officially began the processing of franchise tax payments and franchise renewals Monday, January 5.

There are more or less 7,000 tricycle franchise holders in Zamboanga City, based on the TAB’s records.

To facilitate and accommodate the number of payments and renewals expected to be processed, the TAB extended its office hours from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm on weekdays (Monday – Friday), and from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Franchise owners up for renewal may also avail of the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) set-up for a faster and more efficient renewal process.

The BOSS set-up, which currently serves local businesses and trades in their permit renewals, brings together all agencies and offices involved in the renewal licenses of the different kind of business. Agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (OCENR), and the City Health Office (CHO), will also be holding temporary offices at the 2nd floor of the City Hall until January 20.

Late payment of franchise taxes and renewal will result in higher fees, penalties, and possible sanctions. Per Ordinance 185, late registration for any fraction of the year is considered 1 year, and penalty will be full payment of all unpaid fees plus 50% surcharges.

A surcharge of 25% of the fees will be collected for charges and dues paid after January 20, and an interest of 2% per month until paid.

Requirements for the renewal of tricycle franchises include an inspection of the general condition, pollution clearance, motor vehicle certificate of registration by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), barangay clearance, Income Tax Return (ITR), police clearance, driver’s license, insurance policy and health certificate.
