Men of Police Station 4 based in Culianan intercepted at a checkpoint a cargo of suspected smuggled rice Sunday afternoon.

A police report disclosed that policemen led by Insp. Sonny Boy Perez were manning a checkpoint along Lobregat Highway in Culianan around 5:30 p.m. when a Mitsubishi Canter truck driven by Alvin Alabata, 37, of Divisoria came in.

However when policemen inspected the vehicle, they found 76 sacks of rice, 48 of which bear the names — Fossil/Sinandomeng. The 28 others sacks contain glutinous rice with brand name Sunrise AAA.

Police added that the truck driver could not produce documents legalizing the transport of the rice.

Further report said that truck came from Pagadian City heading for the city proper.

The truck belongs to Jimmy Jesto of San Roque.— Dan Toribio
