City gov’t to buy 20 computers for WMSU Curuan Extension PDF Print E-mail

The city government under Mayor Celso Lobregat’s administration has committed to buy 20 computer units for the exclusive use of the Western Mindanao State University’s External Studies Unit in Barangay Curuan, east of this city.

This, after Mayor Lobregat together with WMSU President Dr. Grace J. Rebollos and Zamboanga City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Dolores Alcantara signed on Saturday the memorandum of agreement, formally establishing the WMSU Curuan Extension Unit also known as WMSU East Campus, now on its second year of operation at Curuan National High School (CNHS).

Under the agreement, which was also signed by CNHS Principal Dr. Larmie Abad and Curuan Barangay Chairman Noel Perez, the city government shall also endeavor to provide the necessary infrastructure facilities necessary for the WMSU Curuan Campus.

The city likewise committed to encourage and assist the barangay officials in promoting the University curricular programs among students from Curuan and neighboring barangays.

For its part, the WMSU as a government, nonsectarian educational institution of higher learning under Dr. Rebollos shall continue to offer the undergraduate courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and the two-year course in Associate Computer Science it started at CNHS.

The WMSU shall also adhere strictly to policies on admission of students, registration, academic standards and in the qualification of the professors, instructors or other personnel. The matriculation, tuition and other fees applicable to the students at WMSU-CNHS, per University approved schedule of fees, shall be collected by the University and to be disbursed for salaries of faculty and other operating expenses.

The Zamboanga City Schools Division, on the other hand, shall under the agreement authorize, make available and allow the use of the buildings and other facilities of the CNHS, it being the campus for the WMSU Curuan Extension Unit.

The Barangay Council of Curuan thru its chairman and other officials vowed to provide all assistance or support such as security of both students and personnel of WMSU Curuan campus, peace and order, sanitation and such financial, material or infrastructure facilities and maintenance of utilities necessary for or germane to the objectives of the agreement.

The CNHS, meanwhile, shall assist in the implementation of the programs and in making its facilities, amenities, utilities and other services readily available for the use of faculty and students of the WMSU Curuan campus.

The memorandum of agreement was signed at Curuan Barangay Hall in the presence of Councilors Persival Ramos and Nonong Guingona, WMSU Vice President for Research Extension and Development Dr. Milabel Ho, WMSU Registrar Aurora Manzon, University Secretary Armando Arquiza, WMSU Chief of Staff Dr. Socorro Yvonne Ramos, WMSU External Studies Dean Dr. Sarita Francisco, several other University and Barangay officials. — Vic Larato
