Please pray for Zamboanga.

This was the message of City Mayor Beng Climaco to Pope Francis who is slated to be in the Philippines for his papal visit from January 15 to 19.

“We would like to ask our Pope Francis, pabor reza para con el ciudad de Zamboanga,” said Climaco during the recent turnover of permanent homes in Sta. Catalina to homeowners of the St. Peter’s Homeowners Association yesterday morning.

The Pope is expected to arrive January 15 for a five-day visit to the country. Among the highlights of the papal visit is of the Pope’s trip to Leyte to lead a mass and meet with families and survivors of typhoon Yolanda.

Under the themes of mercy and compassion, the papal visit to the Philippines underscores Pope Francis’ philosophy and stand to lead the Catholic Church to understand the needs of the poor.

While the City will not be part of the pontiff’s itinerary, Climaco nevertheless hoped that the Pope will not forget the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Zamboanga and their need for prayers of peace.

“We will not be able to see you, but please note that we are one City in Zamboanga – Christians, Muslims, and Lumads – in need of prayer for peace to build back a better Zamboanga. Santo Papa, reza para el paz,” said Climaco. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
