A policewoman was shot dead during a heated argument with a policeman outside the latter’s house at Estrada St., San Roque last Wednesday night.

Shot dead was PO1 Nurhina Tidal y Sumaoy, 24, single, of Sitio Talungun, San Roque. She was assigned at R1 Division, Police Regional Office.

Tidal was allegedly shot by PO3 Jose Dexter Esquiolona y Padua, 45, married, of Estrada St,  San Roque and assigned at the RSTU in Camp Abendan.

A police report disclosed that Tidal went to Esquiolona’s house, reportedly angry and shouting while looking for him. Esquiolona and his wife went out of the house and confronted Tidal. The confrontation turned into a heated argument during which a gunfire was heard and Tidal was later found lying on the ground with a bullet wound in the body.

Esquiolona rushed Tidal to the hospital where she expired while undergoing treatment.

Esquiolona denied that he was the one who fired the shot that killed Tidal.

It was learned that Tidal’s 9mm pistol went off during the heated argument.

Police investigators were checking reports alleging that Esquiolona and Tidal had an illicit affair.

Esquiolona was detained at the Sta. Maria police station pending the filing of charges against him. — Dan Toribio
