The construction of the Sarangani Energy Corporation power plant  is now  86 percent complete.

The power plant, a project the Alson Power Group of companies, is located at a coastal area of Barangay Kamanga in the municipality of Maasim, Sarangani province.

The plant’s total land area is 3,750 hectares with watershed protection of 987,900 seedlings planted.

One officer of the power plant who requested in anonymity disclosed that the construction of Phase 1 involving 105 megawatts out of a total of 210 is expected to be completed before the end of 2015.

He said once completed, the power share agreement with South Cotabato Electric Cooperative II which is 70 percent of the total megawatts can be distributed by the cooperative.

As of October 31, 2014,  progress/ accomplishments are boiler area (ongoing  installation of steel structure)  is now  78 percent complete, STG building is 92 percent complete, Main Control building is 94 percent complete, Clarifier and water pond structure for demi water is 92 percent, workshop and storage building is 91 percent complete, Coal crusher building is 97 percent complete,  Coal storage building is 85 percent complete, Cooling tower basin and pump structure is 64 percent complete and EP Electrical and Control Building is  76 percent complete.

The officer added that the company have 7,500-hectare surrounding area for reforestation with high valued commercial crops for the livelihood of the people in  area. The coastal fishing ground fronting the  power plant has also an ongoing project on the planting of 4,000 concreted artificial reef materials for fish sanctuaries. — Allen Abastillas
