Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered police and military units to intensify patrols to thwart internal and external threats particularly jailbreaks.

The chief executive issued the instruction in the light of a foiled attempt by Abu Sayyaf to spring its members detained at the City Jail. Clearing operations conducted by authorities at the jail  Monday yielded three calibre pistols with ammunition embedded on two cooking stoves.

Internal and external security including maritime defense have been mapped out in coordination with City Police Director Col. Angelito Casimiro and City Reformatory Center Warden JCI Julius Arro who have instituted contingency plans.

Mayor Climaco credited the proactive vigilance of stakeholders in detection and prevention of incidents with combined force ready for interdiction.

“Primordial concern is to keep Zamboanga City safe,” the mayor declared.

Meanwhile, authorities have heightened alert at the City Reformatory Center in view of persistent reports of jailbreak and rescue attempts by lawless elements. More or less 57 high profile inmates are detained at the City Reformatory Center with cases resulting from crimes committed in Basilan and Sulu. — Sheila Covarrubias
