Three Abu Sayyaf guerrllas were killed and six wounded Wednesday in series of of three encounters with army troops in Barangay Pamatsaken and Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, Basilan Province

Troops under the army’s 104th Infantry Brigade encountered some 50 ASGs under the sub leaders Radzmil Janatul and Juhaivel Alamsirul tagged as responsible for the death of 64 Infantry Battalion troopers securing the Basilan Circumferential Road (BCR) project last November last year.

On January 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. ASG gunmen engaged soldiers in a 15-minute firefight at the vicinity of Penas, Barangay Pamatsaken, Sumisip.

Based on the report, the militants  withdrew north towards Barangay Baiwas.One of them, Yusof Sandatan, was seriously wounded, while army forces suffered no casualties.

At 12:55 p.m. of same day, troops while clearing the area of Pamatsaken-Baiwas were met by sniper fire from ASG guerrillas at . Troops returned sniper fire and inched their way towards the Abu Sayyaf position.

At about 1:38 pm, troops while continuously clearing the area of Pamatsaken-Baiwas, again encountered the ASG guerillas. A firefight lasted for about two hours, this time with the combined group under ASG sub-leader Radzmil Janatul @ Khubayb and ASG sub-leader Juhaibel Alamsirul
