The war against human trafficking continues in Zamboanga City and in other parts of the region.
Twenty four more persons were rescued by law enforcers in fresh operations carried out at dawn yesterday and last Monday in Zamboanga City and in Tawi-Tawi.
The latest operations brought to 43 the number of would-be victims rescued by lawmen in two weeks. Nineteen others were rescued last Monday along Nuñez St. near the St. Joseph Church.

Nine of the 24 were rescued around 3:00 a.m yesterday at the Zamboanga City wharf, while the 15 were rescued in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. They arrived in this city  yesterday afternoon. Most of the would-be victims came from Luzon, particularly in Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Isabela and some from Mindoro Oriental. The nine would-be victims were earlier spotted by an informant last Sunday night at the Mindeva Wharf in Rio hondo. Their names and identities were withheld for their safety and security as provided for under the law.

Initial investigation disclosed that the 24 would-be victims were illegally recruited for domestic helper jobs in Singapore. Their rendezvous place was set in Zamboanga City. The rest went ahead to Bongao.

According to an intelligence report, the 24 persons and their illegal recruiter were to jump off to Malaysia before proceeding to Singapore.
The rescued would-be victims are now safe under the care of Zamboanga Seabased Anti-Trafficking Task Force.

The latest operations were led by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-9 chief Sr. Supt. Manuel Rariza Jr. and Philippine Center on Transnational Crime Mindanao Field Office head Supt. Celso L. Bael. They coordinated with Zamboanga Seabased Anti-Trafficking Task Force and the Department of Social and Welfare and Development 9, Visayan Forum , officials of Barangay Rio hondo, Bureau of immigration and Deportation, Bureau of Quarantine, 9th Public Safety Battalion , Philippine Coast Guard and the PPA Police. — Allen Abastillas
