The son of a judge who has reportedly been receiving threats recently was shot and seriously wounded at the entrance  road of Canelar Moret yesterday afternoon.

Betlejon Baraquias, 21, a political science student of the Western Mindanao State University and son of Judge Betle Ian Baraquias, sustained multiple  bullet wounds in the body and was taken to the hospital aboard the multicab vehicle of Barangay Canelar.

Baraquias was shot by a gunman aboard a motorcycle. He was driving a Mazda sedan coming from the interior of Canelar Moret when a gunman seated on a Honda XRM motorcycle parked along the road got up, approached him and shot him several times.

The gunman boarded the motorcycle again and sped towards the interior of Canelar Moret. Recovered at the crime scene were several spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Police investigators said the attack could have been intended for Judge Baraquias, who is assigned in Jolo, Sulu, and has reportedly been receiving threats lately.

It was learned that the judge had been frequently driving the Mazda sedan. — Dan Toribio
